Forgiving or Forgetting

Forgiving or Forgetting

by Laura A Collins (Notes) on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 7:10pm
We often equate forgiveness with forgetting.  The two are not interchangeable.  Forgiving means we accept that the harm was done, but we are WILLING to move on - and we are WILLING to allow the other person to move on.  "I Forgive you" means, I know it happened, but our relationship can continue.

Forgetting is entirely different.  To forget implies that no lessons were learned, that value was denied, and that wishful thinking of "never happened" was applied.  Forgetting is refusing to allow yourself to grow into a stronger person.

So, remember the event and the results of that event, but FORGIVE the person and let go anything negative attached to the event.  Be FOR GIVING yourself and the others involved the chance to move on and to grow.
