Keep Dylan Safe - The plea of a mother of a son with severe allergies

Hi All,
Katie is one of my friends.  We met - where else - on a Facebook page dedicated to living a corn-free life.  Big emphasis on LIVING.  With allergies, particularly severe and sneaky ones, living has a whole new meaning.  Corn is not just those golden (or otherwise colored) kernels.  It is in everything from fabrics to plastic to hundreds of additives in food.  It is ubiquitous.

For people with severe allergies to corn or corn products, it can be life-threatening to live with someone who is in denial or ignorant of the scope of the problem.

I am lucky - most of my allergies are not severe enough that ignorance will kill me.  And I am NOT a  child.

I am posting this because it is important that we all understand just how complicated it is to care for a child with severe allergies.  And because, it is essential that the "what if" possibilities are pre-planned to maintain safety for children.

Please help if you can

Thanks!
Laura

KEEP DYLAN SAFE
Many of you who know us know that while Eric may not be Dylan's biological father he is the only Dad Dylan has ever known. In order to keep Dylan safe and in our care we are needing to go to court to ensure that Eric has rights in the tragic event that something were to happen to me. In order to do so there are many court costs associated with the process. We had hoped to go through this without a lawyer but at this time we have realized this is too big of a fight for us to go alone. A lawyer retainer is roughly $2,000 (it may even end up being double) and then the lawyer will bill for their time and take from that retainer. We have already made as many sacrifices as we can and used up all our savings to pay court costs for things such as the guardian ad litem (person who determines Dylans best interests) as well as other fees associated with court and with notifying Dylans biological father. We have even borrowed money that we will now have to pay back. At this time we have exhausted every avenue we can think of in order to get the money we need to fight this battle without reaching out for help. We have reached the point we simply cant. Even if you can only give $5 or just share this link so maybe someone else can donate it would be greatly appreciated. Also any wishful thoughts and prayers to help us get through this extremely stressful time would be greatly appreciated as well! Thank you in advance.

Katie, Eric, and Dylan
